RØDE was founded in 1990 by Peter Freedman, following in the footsteps of his parents’ success designing and manufacturing loudspeakers, amplifiers, custom electronics and microphones for the Australian market under the name Freedman Electronics.
The company’s product line includes a full range of multipurpose and specialized microphones, including large-diaphragm tube and FET condensers, small-diaphragm condensers, stage/performance mics, camera-mount and boom-mount shotguns, and headset/lapel models.
RODE has begun publishing how-to videos on its Rode University website. The first two class series address location miking with the NTG-3 shotgun mic, and drum kit miking with the K2 tube mic, the NTK, the NT2-A, and other Rode mics.
Most of the company’s products are eligible for a remarkable 10-year warranty. Rode also provides a registration service to help recover lost or stolen microphones.
