Pearl Microphone Laboratory TL 4
Multi-Pattern Condenser Stereo Microphone
The TL4 is a high-output version of the Pearl TL44. Both are 180-degree “stereo” FET condenser microphones with Pearl’s proprietary Model 2800 rectangular capsule.
The TL4 shares the TL44’s capsule, body, and amplifier circuitry, with the following differences:
- Its sensitivity is 120 mV/Pa, as compared to the TL44’s more typical 16 mV/Pa. The TL4 could be run without a preamp in many situations. Its output is approximately 20dB higher than the TL44’s.
- The TL4 has higher output impedance, around 500 Ohm, whereas the TL44 is rated at 100 Ohm. The TL4 therefore should not be used with long cable runs.
- Self-noise on the TL4 is 4dB higher, at 18dBA.
- 5-pin XLR male (1)
- Requires phantom power
- Phantom voltage: 48v
For more information on the mic, see the TL44 profile.
The Pearl Microphone Laboratory TL 4 is also known as: TL4.
The mic was released in 1985.
