Nevaton MC420
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
The Nevaton MC420 is a medium-diaphragm FET condenser microphone that can be ordered with any of four fixed pickup patterns.
The mic capsule is a 24mm diameter model with dual center-terminated, gold-plated, pre-aged 3-micron Mylar (polyethylene-terephtalate aka PET plastic) diaphragms. The capsule is shockmounted within the mic’s headbasket, to reduce transduction of environmental or handling noise.
The same capsule can be found in the multipattern MC51. In the single-pattern MC420, the capsule is hard-wired to produce one of the following patterns:
- Cardioid
- Wide Cardioid
- Omnidirectional
- Figure-of-8
The cardioid pattern is considered standard; other options likely require additional fees and order time.
As with all the Nevaton condensers, the amplifier circuit is a Class-A transformerless design with low self-noise (14dBA).
The microphone body is machined from brass, and is painted with a gray textured epoxy. The headbasket grille is a 3-layer metal mesh.
The mic ships in a padded hardwood box.
All Nevaton microphones are manufactured in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The Nevaton MC420 is also known as: MK420.
The mic was released in 2004.
