X/Y Stereo Condenser Stereo Microphone

The 990-Stereo is an XY-stereo microphone built into the case of the MXL 990 microphone. The preamp circuitry is the same in both mics, although the stereo version presumably has two of everything.

The capsules are MXL’s standard small-diaphragm design, with a 17mm diaphragm and 20mm backplate, within a 22mm housing. The membrane material is 6-micron Mylar.

Each capsule has a dedicated Class A transformerless preamp. The mic has a 5-pin XLR jack, and is supplied with a breakout cable providing two 3-pin XLR outputs.

Note that this mic is sometimes described as a “large diaphragm” design, but it uses a pair of medium-diaphragm capsules.

See also the USB version of the microphone.
