CardioidLewitt Audio LCT 240 PRO

Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The LCT 240 PRO is a scaled-down version of Lewitt’s LCT 240, lacking all switches such as pad, low cut, and Lewitt’s clipping history feature. Removing these features makes the 240 PRO less expensive and it is thus the new entry microphone in Lewitt’s LCT line.

The mic has a different capsule than the more expensive mics in the line. It is not a full 25.4 (1”) diaphragm, though the physical design does resemble the large-diaphragm mics in Lewitt’s product line.

Instead, the 240 PRO shares the same 17mm small-diaphragm electret capsule as the 240, which in turn shares its capsule with the LCT 140, Lewitt’s entry-level pencil microphone. However, the vastly different body shapes, different amplifier designs (though all employ transformerless circuits with surface-mount components) and the more open headbasket of the 240/240 PRO mean the 140 and 240/240 PRO are very different mics, despite the shared capsule.

Technical specifications bear out that the mic seems best suited for bedroom recording of vocals and acoustic guitars: it has quite a pronounced top end with a substantial peak at 8kHz, and the low end begins to roll off starting at 100Hz, thus decreasing the need for a low cut filter. The microphone can handle high SPL, however - 142db - so it can be used for instruments and amplifiers. Lewitt’s marketing materials give some idea of the mic’s purpose as an entry-level all-rounder: ‘Record’, it says.

Unique to Lewitt’s LCT line, the 240 PRO comes in white as well as black.

The package includes a rubber swivel mount, a leatherette mic bag, and a foam windscreen.
