JZ Microphones BH-2
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The BH-2 was designed to be a less-expensive version of the BH-1. It retains the unique body style of the BH-1 (albeit with a second-generation shockmount/damper design), omits one of the two capsules in the BH-1, and has a fixed cardioid pickup pattern in place of the BH-1’s 3-way, two-diaphragm design.
The capsule in the BH-2 (and BH-3) is JZ’s GDC1, a large-diaphragm design with a single 27mm diaphragm. The polyester film membrane is sputtered with the company’s proprietary “golden drop” variable sputtering technique, in which irregularly-sized drops of JZ’s proprietary gold alloy are applied to the film substrate.
The hole in the microphone body is designed to reduce unwanted reverberation off of the face of the microphone.
All the Black Hole mics are packaged identically: with the original BH-1 spring shockmount, in a padded hardwood box that seals shut magnetically.
The JZ Microphones BH-2 is also known as: Black Hole SE, BH2.
The mic was released in 2008.
