Granelli Audio Labs G5790
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
The G5790 is a modified Shure SM57. Simply put, the mod turns the mic’s capsule 90°, facilitating positioning around a drum kit.
Granelli staff modify new SM57s by inserting a right-angle piece milled from a block of aluminum, between the mic capsule and the XLR jack. The original capsule and transformer are retained. The size of the acoustic chamber within the original microphone body is not changed. According to Granelli, the microphone’s tone, frequency response, and sensitivity are unaffected by this mod.
Although this modification void’s Shure’s 2-year warranty on the microphone, Granelli offers its own 2-year warranty.
Granelli mods and sells new microphones only. Your existing SM57s cannot be sent in for modification at this time.
MIX
The results were exactly as expected and advertised — it sounded exactly like a 57.
