Electro-Voice PL80a
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
The EV PL-80a is dynamic vocal mic designed for stage use. It is an update to the PL-80 that dates from the mid-1970’s.
The PL-80a is EV’s “workhorse” vocal microphone, having a very tight supercardioid pattern for vocal pickup on loud stages. The narrower polar pattern reduces feedback because it is less sensitive to off-axis sounds (from, for example, wedge monitors on the stage). It has EV’s “memraflex” grill that is a rigid, dent-resistant mesh, and a shock mounted capsule for reduced handling noise.
The frequency curve indicates a flat response from approximately 200Hz to 2kHz, then a 4-5db presence peak from 3kHz to 5kHz. The mic has a large 12db boost in the low end due to proximity effect.
It is also available in the “classic” color scheme of beige and black as the model PL-80c.
The PL-80a is sold with a mic clip and cloth bag.
The Electro-Voice PL80a is also known as: PL-80a, PL 80a, PL80, PL-80, PL 80.
