Ear Trumpet Labs Chantelle
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The Chantelle is a medium-large diaphragm (26mm) condenser microphone specifically designed for live, close-up vocal work. Unlike some other Ear Trumpet microphones, the head is mounted on a pivoting bracket rather than a large ring so it has a smaller physical profile than Ear Trumpet’s Louise or Myrtle. The pivot allows the mic to be used as either end- or side-address.
Chantelle shares a capsule with Ear Trumpet’s other 26mm designs. That capsule is the well-regarded TSB-2555, coupled to a transformerless FET circuit. Chantelle’s implementation of this includes low-cut filtering from 250Hz down, designed specifically to counteract proximity effect; the Chantelle is designed to be worked close. Also, there is an additional layer of internal plosive filtering: Chantelle has both the silk filter from Ear Trumpet’s Edwina and Myrtle, as well as a foam filter.
Though the Chantelle shares a capsule with some of the other Ear Trumpet mics, it has a different head basket design that contributes to a more focused midrange, according to designer Philip Graham.
Finally, and again as a result of its purpose as a close-up vocal mic, the Chantelle has a lower output than its sister microphones.
Chantelle comes with a mic clip and is shipped in a metal tool case with foam padding.
