BidirectionalCascade Microphones DR-2

Bidirectional Ribbon Microphone

The Cascade DR-2 is a passive, dual-ribbon design with a symmetrical figure-of-8 pickup pattern. Unlike offset ribbon designs, this microphone produces equal (but out-of-phase) response from the front and back sides of the motor, making it useful as the “side” channel in a mid-side setup, or within a Blumlein array.

For more information about the dual-ribbon motor design found in this mic, see the analysis here.

The dual ribbon motor is similar to that found in numerous microphones, such as the Trion 7000 and the various ShuaiYin SYR50 clones, such as the Apex 215 and Avant CR-14.

The mic is available in two configurations:

  • DR-2 - stock transformer, $239
  • DR-2L - Lundahl LL2913 transformer, $389

Both models include a suspension shockmount and an aluminum storage case.

The Cascade Microphones DR-2 is also known as: DR2.
