Avantone Pro CV-28
Detachable-Capsule Pencil Tube Condenser Microphone
The CV-28 is a small-diaphragm tube condenser with three interchangeable capsules providing three pickup patterns: cardioid, omni, and hypercardioid. Unlike related multipattern SDCs, only the internal capsule is changed — the external grille assembly must be removed first, to expose the threaded capsule head.
The diaphragm in these capsules measures 6 microns in thickness, with an approximate diaphragm diameter (measured by us within the inside diameter of the trim ring at the top of the capsule assembly) of 17mm.
The microphone shares exterior metalwork with a few other models, such as the Advanced Audio CM-28, the Groove Tubes GT44, and the Sterling ST44. However, the GT44 and ST44 circuits differ considerably from the CV-28. Further, the capsule mounting platform on the ST44/GT44 is slightly different than the CV-28.
The tube is a 6J1B, a Chinese-made tube sourced by the manufacturer. The transformer is also of Chinese origin.
The mic includes a padded wooden box, suspension shockmount, dedicated power supply, power cable, 3 interchangeable capsules (omni, cardioid, hypercardioid) within a plastic pillbox, an aluminum flightcase, and a 5-year warranty.
The Avantone Pro CV-28 is also known as: CV28.
The mic was released in 2006.
