Avantone Pro BK-2
Detachable-Capsule Pencil Condenser Microphone
The BV-2 is a FET condenser made with high-end components and multiple interchangeable capsules, including both large- and small-diaphragm varieties.
A prototype was displayed at Winter NAMM in January, 2009, but never released. That mic had a transformerless output, two-position pad (10/15dB), two-position HPF (100Hz/200Hz), and an unusual figure-of-8 capsule head (conceptually modeled after the bidirectional Oktava capsule for the MK-012).
The 2010 version of the mic retains the “buttercream” finish of the prototype, but unlike the prototype is made in the USA. The new mic has no pad nor filter. The figure-of-8 capsule is not shipping at this time.
The new circuit design is said to be made with premium components. The mic’s output circuit is now transformer-coupled and features a Cinemag transformer.
The mic will be available in two packages:
- BK-2 - a single FET head amp with three 20mm capsules (cardioid, omni, hypercardioid) and shockmount, in a wooden case.
- BK-2.2 - a stereo kit with two FET head amps, eight 20mm capsules (cardioid, omni, hyper, wide cardioid), two “C02” side-address large-diaphragm capsules that switch between cardioid and omni, two Avantone SSM shockmounts, stereo bar, and foam windscreens, all packed into a vintage tweed suitcase.
The 2009 prototype kit contained two mic bodies in padded wooden storage cases, two perforated-metal pop filters and mounts, a stereo mounting bar, and 10 capsules, all fitted within a hardshell tweed case. The 2010 “BK2.2” kit is packed in a similar fashion.
The Avantone Pro BK-2 is also known as: BK2, BK2.2.
