Avantone Pro ATOM
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
The ATOM is a dynamic microphone intended for use on toms, bass cabinet, and large hand drums such as congas and djembe.
The body is made of diecast zinc and incorporates a metal mic clip on a swivel mount.
The mic is similar in concept and application to the Audix D2. Both mics have a +5dB LF peak, the ATOM being a bit lower at 100Hz while the D2 peaks at 150Hz. Both mics have a relatively flat/neutral midrange response, and a HF peak. The ATOM is at +5dB from 3kHz–6kHz; the D2 peak runs from 2kHz to 6kHz.
The D2 has a much higher sensitivity rating of 2.5mV/Pa, as compared to the ATOM at 0.5 mV/Pa, but when close-miking loud toms the ATOM’s sensitivity might actually work to the engineer’s advantage, as it might reduce spill from nearby toms and cymbals.
The ATOM ships in a padded plastic carrying case with Avant’s “Pro-Klamp” drum rim mount.
