Audio-Technica MB 2k
Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone
The MB 2k is an inexpensive hypercardioid instrument microphone, from Audio-Technica’s “Midnight Blues” series. Like the other microphones in this series, it uses an all-metal body with a “soft touch” finish, a Neodymium magnet in the dynamic cartridge, and a silent on/off switch.
The mic’s published frequency response shows a rolloff below 100Hz, and a relatively smooth +8dB presence lift from 3800Hz–7kHz. The mic’s -3dB points are at 80Hz on the low end, and 12kHz on the high end. However, note that this graph was measured at a 12 inch working distance. At closer distances, the mic likely has much fuller low-frequency response, due to proximity effect.
The mic ships with the AT8470 hard mount, thread adapter, and a soft storage pouch.
The mic is also available in a bundle with a 15-foot XLR cable, as the MB 2k/c.
The Audio-Technica MB 2k is also known as: MB2k, MB 2k.
