Apex Electronics 210
Bidirectional Ribbon Microphone
The Apex 210 is a passive ribbon microphone with a figure-of-8 pickup pattern. Apex describes the mic’s bidirectionality as “asymmetrical,” with an “extended sweet spot on the rear face of the microphone allowing the recording to accurately reproduce the natural space and ambient reverberation of a good sounding live room.”
Like other “long ribbon / short path” Chinese ribbon mics, the 210 has a ribbon motor that appears to have been modeled after the AEA R84. It is a 55mm, 2-micron thick corrugated aluminum ribbon suspended between Neodymium magnets in an hourglass-shaped yoke.
The mic has an integrated XLR cable and ships with an integrated yoke mount in an aluminum case. The mic should be stored with the ribbon in a vertical position, to help prevent ribbon sag.
