CardioidADK A6

Cardioid Condenser Microphone

Intended as an all-purpose, neutral sounding studio mic, the A6 has a fixed cardioid pickup pattern and a “purist” approach to the design of the electronics: Class A, transformer based, with no switches (neither mechanical nor electrical) to degrade the signal. Further, all circuit-board components are soldered in place without sockets or terminals. No Tantalum capacitors are present in the signal path.

The Designer’s Notes for the A6 microphone specified that the A6 would have a “tone color in between the Hamburg and Vienna mics.”

ADK

The frequency response of the A6 is quite flat throughout with slight midrange and top end bumps. A light low-end roll-off helps control proximity effect. Internal EQ tuned to the capsule gives the A6 a realistic sound, with rarely ever a need for unnecessary EQ.

The capsule is the same is the S-7 and S-7B, but the preamp electronics are very different — e.g., the S7 mics are transformerless.

Larry Vilella - ADK

Our primary Aim with the A6 was Not as a Vocal Mic.

Our primary aim was an all-around utility mic that had
Guitar, Piano, Drum OH, and SPOKEN Voice as Primary Apps.

By Design, the A6 has A Little, but Not a Lot, of Upper Mids. By Design, the S-7 is even More Attenuated in the Upper Mids.

I’ll take the criticism of “Too Neutral” for the A6…

If you Don’t LOVE the A6 on Frets, I’ll hang up my spurs and go
back to playing back-alley jazz. . . The A6 was made for frets!!!

Try A6 on Hand Percussion. Or Voice-Overs. That’s what we’re
hearing from the first few hundred owners of these two mics.

The A6 ships in a black wooden jewel box with a metal “ring” mount. An optional elastic shockmount can be ordered (p/n ADKMountBaskBlk).

The ADK A6 is also known as: A-6.

The mic was released in 2007.
