Blue Microphone Contest Prizes

Blueberry

The Blueberry is a large-diaphragm, transformer-coupled FET condenser microphone with a sparkly, detailed high-frequency response.

It is a first-call vocal mic in more than one of the studios we spend time in. According to BLUE founder Skipper Wise, the Blueberry was initially designed as a vocal microphone, with a sound reminiscent of classic vintage tube vocal mics. Unlike many condenser microphones, the Blueberry can be worked very close due to its controlled proximity effect.

Electronic Musician

The construction, look, and feel of the Blueberry is superlative down to the smallest detail…

The Blueberry is dynamically a very fast mic, capable of following extremely rapid changes in sound pressure with accuracy. In fact, this microphone’s dynamic response rivals that of the best ribbon mics and small-diaphragm condensers.

In further session trials, the Blueberry worked its intimate magic as promised. [The] lead vocalist sounded especially commanding at two to three inches from the mic… [the] female singer’s harmony-vocal part had superlative presence and blended perfectly when tracked through the Blueberry at about four inches.

Yeti Pro

The Yeti Pro is a multipattern condenser with an unusual 3-capsule array and both analog and digital outputs.

The Yeti Pro’s onboard ADC makes it the highest-resolution digital mic on the market: 24-bit, 192 kHz. The mic also features a mute, gain control, and zero-latency headphone jack for realtime monitoring.

The mic’s four polar patterns are Cardioid, Omni, Figure-of-8, and XY (Stereo).

Really hoping to get some great music out there, a better mic would help this greatly. Rap really is poetry if done correctly, hopefully starting a band with live instrumentation soon too,

I’ve been playing music for about 7 years, and just got into recording about a year ago. I’m building up equipment as I can afford it, and stumbled upon your website while researching MXL 603 condenser microphones! Thanks for the wealth of knowledge on the website. I love recording music, and I work as a radio producer. Although, I use an sm58 for my voice-overs… Blue Microphones would make a huge difference in my voice quality, and overall work!

I can’t afford to go to the studio every time I’ve got a good idea (who can?). I’ve been playing guitar for about 11 years now, I’ve been accepted to Berklee in Boston…having these microphones in my arsenal would really help to put my home recordings over the edge.

Definitely a great pair of microphones for the professional, or young musician just starting out. You’ve got the the Blueberry for detailed, “radio-ready,” recordings, and the Yeti Pro for inspiration on the go.

It would be GREAT to have some GOOD equipment to record with! As a “one-man-band” I have to cover all the bases, which usually means “fix or fab” and make due!
